This stunning villa with lake views, is set in the most tranquil and private location, nestled on a hillside surrounded by olive groves. Accessed by a one-kilometre drive from the road on a largely concreted track, this modern detached house, of impeccable character, features a large covered terrace on two sides of the house along with a good-sized patio area and a lovely private swimming pool. This is the place to relax and unwind. 

 

The house features an open-plan ground floor area with a good-sized kitchen, a large lounge plus an adjoining tv area and a downstairs bathroom. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, all of a good size and each with an en suite bathroom. Two of the bedrooms enjoy private terraces taking in even more of the views across the lake and to the hills beyond.

Iznájar is situated at the southernmost tip of Córdoba province, very close to the borders of both Granada and Malaga provinces. There are good road links from all directions including Córdoba, Granada, Malaga and Seville. 

​

The airports at both Granada and Malaga are approximately a one-hour drive to the Villa.

Malaga airport is probably the most popular airport destination as it offers more flights from the UK. Seville airport is approximately two hours away.

​

You will need a car for your stay at Cortijo Rocas Altas as buses and licenced taxis are not generally available in the area.

​

Opened in February 2022, our first season ended with a Traveller Review Award from Booking.com in January 2023, rating us Exceptional.

The Villa is set up to sleep 6 adults however there is an option to sleep 8 on request, with a third single bed added to Bedroom 1 or Bedroom 2. The third bed is suitable for children up to the age of 16 years. Alternatively, we can provide up to two cots for babies and small children.

When not sunning yourself by the pool we have a large patio offering both sun and shade with great views of the lake. There is also an extensive wrap-around covered terrace on two side of the Villa.

With yucca plants, olive trees and beds of lavender, rosemary and sage, there is a real feel of a Spanish garden.

Iznájar

​

The picturesque hilltop town of Iznájar overlooks the beautiful reservoir which sits in the valley of the River Genil. The ruins of the eighth-century castle, the Hins Ashar, and parts of the fortified town walls can be seen on the upper levels of the town along with the Iglesia Parroquial de Santiago and the beautiful Patio de las Comedias. There are also a few cave dwellings known as El Caganchuelo.

​

Iznájar is at the southern-most part of Córdoba province, very close to the borders with both Granada and Malaga provinces. It has been voted one of the most picturesque towns in Andalucia. It offers a variety of bars and restaurants as well as a selection of small supermarkets, several butchers, a bakery , a fish market and a fruit & veg shop. There is also a selection of small retail outlets selling clothing, shoes, and gifts as well as pharmacies, a medical centre and hardware stores. 

 

Lake Iznájar and the Playa de Valdearenas

​

Between  the Villa and the town of Iznájar lies the Embalse de Iznájar, a reservoir formed in the 1960's stretching east to west along the River Genil. The reservoir is dammed at the western end near the town of Cuevas de San Marcos.

​

On the edge of Iznájar, to the west, is the small sandy beach at Playa de Valdearenas from where, in the summer months, one may be able to hire pedalo boats, kayaks and paddle boards, or take a tour of the lake on an electric boat.  Swimming in the lake is permitted.

​

You are required to hold a valid permit if you wish to use private boats or go fishing in the Lake.

Cycling

 

With the option of cycling off-road on rough terrain or following tracks laid down to give farmers access to their land, to road cycling, the options are endless. 

​

In recent years the nearby town of Iznájar has hosted both the start and finish of Stages in the Vuelta de Andalucia.

​

Being a mountainous region there is the opportunity for some quite serious cycling and hill climbs. 

Walking

If you enjoy walking, there are numerous tracks and routes to follow in the area and further afield.  Just go for a wander amongst the olive trees, walk down to the edge of the nearby Lake or take on some of the more hilly tracks that are visible from the Villa. Wherever you choose to walk you will enjoy breathtakingly beautiful views of the Lake and surrounding mountains. 

​

You can pretty much walk anywhere that is not fenced or obviously private. Please do not remove or damage anything on your way!

 

Other Activities available locally

 

Horse Riding 

There are stables nearby at Cortijo Las Minas, a 15 minute drive south of the Villa towards Salinas. Contact info@centroecuestrelasminas.com or phone +34 952 756 037 to check rates and availability.

Sports Centre

There are good sports facilities to the west of Iznájar towards the beach area which include a running track, tennis courts, padel courts, a football pitch and a public open-air swimming pool. Opening times vary considerably throughout the year.

Boat Trip on the Lake

Skiing / Snow Boarding

Yes, skiing in Southern Spain!

The alpine national park and ski resort of the Sierra Nevada is to the south east of Granada and is about a 1 hour 40 minute drive from the Villa. The ski area is on the north-western slopes of Veleta, the third highest peak in Spain and the most southerly ski resort in Europe. Suitable for beginners, intermediates and experts.

The standard configuration and pricing is for 6 people in three bedrooms. Children are most welcome but must be supervised at all times.

​

​We are able  to offer a third single bed in two of the three bedrooms by prior arrangement and at additional cost of €10 per person per night if the total number of guests exceeds 6. Two cots and high-chairs are available for young children. 

​​

Only guests included in the original booking may stay overnight. If the number of guests exceeds the number booked then all guests may be required to vacate the Villa and no refund will be given.

​

Cancellation Policy

​100% refund if you cancel more than 60 days before check-in.

50% refund if you cancel between 60 and 30 days before check-in.

​

NO refund if you cancel within 30 days of check-in or if you fail to arrive.

​

The non-refundable rate gives an additional 5% discount on the nightly rate. No refund will be made if the booking is cancelled by the guest. Cancellation insurance highly recommended.

​

Important:

From December 2024, hosts are required to submit guest details to the Spanish Ministry of Interior at the time of booking. Please send your email address at the time of booking so that a Guest Registration form can be sent to you, for completion and return.

In the event that guests refuse to complete the Guest Registration form, the reservation will be deemed to have been cancelled and no refund will be given.

Damage and Incidentals

​You will be responsible for any damage caused to the rental property by you, your fellow guests or any visitors during your stay.

​​

A damage deposit of €300 in cash is required on arrival. Assuming there is no damage this will be reimbursed on check out. Your deposit will be refunded subject to an inspection of the property. For damage in excess of €300 you will be liable for the full cost of reinstatement.

Richard & Jo were wonderful hosts! Richard was very communcative before we arrived and met us at the villa when we arrived so the check in was very easy. The villa was very comfortable and had plenty of room for our family of 4 to spread out. The kids loved the pool and adults loved the beautiful views and the fully stocked kitchen! We did feel like our SUV was necessary for the drive up but once you do it a time or two it becomes much easier! The location was great as it was only a little over an hour to both Granada and Córdoba and the nearby village had everything that we needed. It was very relaxing and beautiful and we would definitely rent again!
